SPOILER ALERT: Traditional Hindu clothing for Dev Alahan and son at funeral

It was a sad day on the Coronation Street set on Wednesday, as the cast filmed scenes for Sunita Alahan's funeral.
Dressed in the white of Hindu tradition, Jimmi Harkishin and Zennon Ditchett - who play Sunita's husband and son on the ITV soap - walked hand-in-hand as they watched the hearse drive her coffin away.
With a floral wreath spelling out the word 'MUM', the scenes confirmed the death of Shobna Gulati's character, and her upcoming exit from the show.

In the most recent episodes of Corrie, Dev and Sunita have been on track to rekindle their romance, despite her affair with Karl Munro.

Karl - played by John Michie - is the former partner of Stella Price (Michelle Collins), the current landlady of the Rovers Return - and is one of the suspects in the search for the arsonist who torched down the famous pub, with Sunita inside.
Before her death, the mother-of-two was contemplating moving away with Dev after he confesses he still loves his cheating wife.

But sadly their future together comes to an end when she falls victims to the Rovers' inferno.

 

Surprisingly, her funeral was attended by actors Michie and Collins, despite their characters' tumultuous relationship with the not so dearly departed.
Karl's hand is wrapped in a bandage, which suggests he may have played a part in the fire - but whether that was to start or to stop the flames is not known at this point in the storyline.

Walking with them outside the church was Michelle Keegan, who plays Tina McIntyre in the soap.
Other members of the funeral party included Lloyd Mullaney (Craig Charles) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), who were seen looking sombre as they watched the procession of cars following Sunita's coffin.
But as the filming session continued, it seemed the death of one character has breathed life into the relationship of two others.

Cabbie Karl and landlady Stella could be seen getting close outside the church, as he tries to win her back.
Their embrace seems to confirm a reconciliation, despite the awkward choice of venue.
Corrie fans can see these funeral scenes when they hit TV screens in mid-March.
