Rover's return: The Coronation Street star that says one trip to Barbados isn’t enough

Because my working life is so busy, I don’t see my family as much as I’d like. But if we all go on holiday together, it gives us a chance to catch up.
In recent years I’ve made sure we all go away – which means I also keep in with my mum and dad!
When I was a child, we used to go caravanning in Wales and I have been to Florida a couple of times on family trips.

But Barbados was a big step up. We were staying on the west coast in St James, at the Royal Westmoreland, which is by far the best place I’ve ever been, a five-star golf, beach and spa resort.
The accommodation is out of this world. We were in a villa near the beach that officially slept six – but you could easily have got a family of 22 in there.
The beach was always fairly quiet, which made it nice and relaxing, and you are left alone as well. There was no hassle there. We snorkelled and swam and I adored the brightly coloured fish – we even spotted some turtles.
We went on a speedboat trip up and down the West Coast. Our boatman pointed out all the sights, including Sir Cliff Richard’s house.
The only disappointment was that I didn’t get the chance to have a game of beach cricket – I’m a big cricket fan and used to play at a junior level for Yorkshire.
But I did get to have a look at the Kensington Oval ground in Bridgetown, scene of many a West Indies victory, which was great.
Other highlights included an introduction to the local drink, Mount Gay Rum, which was so nice that I had more than I should...
