Corrie actress Catherine Tyldesley happily poses with her birthday
cake... seconds before her hair terrifyingly bursts into flames.
The shot shows the star’s blonde locks dangling perilously close to the lit candles as she was about to blow them out.
Her celebrity guests then watched in horror as Catherine’s lacquer-covered extensions caught fire.
Luckily, co-star Antony Cotton saved the day by leaping up and smothering the flames before they engulfed her head.
Antony, who plays gay factory worker Sean Tully on the ITV
soap, tweeted: “This is the moment just before the weave went up. Not
making it up, the weave was on actual fire. I put it out!”
A source from their circle added: “It was very scary for a few seconds. Catherine is well known for her love of hair extensions and great use of lacquer – but it almost had terrible consequences.”
Catherine, who plays Eva Price, had been celebrating her 29th birthday at Manchester’s Restaurant Bar and Grill with co-stars including Debbie Rush, Ben Price and Paula Lane on Monday night.
The snap of her with the cake was posted by Antony. She tweet-ed: “Can’t believe my hair caught fire on my birthday cake. God damn you hairspray! Tonight Antony Cotton saved my life. Now my hair smells. Bad.”
